As a part of our tour, we visited the Alaska pipeline. That thing is really big. All the blather about how it was going to affect the wildlife has turned out to be not true. Quite the contrary. We saw one photo of a mother bear and her two cubs walking along the line; preferable to slogging through the snow.

The company has established a number of viewpoints where you can get a good look at a chunk of it, see some of how it works, and pick up various bits of information. They run large bullet shaped contraptions called "pigs" through the line, to scrape out deposits, check for weaknesses and such. Ellen insisted on getting this photo. My weight may be a number that starts with a two, but I’m not that big a retired pig.
